10.3 Shelves

A shelf is a rackmount device whose job is to carry others. Its block in Racks mode is a drop zone: box devices dropped on it become riders, rendered as chips, landing at the gap under the pointer. A laden shelf claims as many U as its cargo really needs, so nothing can be mounted into the air its contents occupy.
